about

A song about empathy, apathy, and dying dreams.

I had been waiting to have studio access for good vocal tracking but, perfect or not, I just needed to get this one out. Might re-do vocal tracking after I finish moving.

lyrics

Lone stroll past callous, cawing crones
Not far, just past the hill
Lies the oak to which we've promised bones
In silence we feel its will
The stone fence with black wrought gate
Looms ahead woven path
The iron it creaks a threat to take
All that was left of wrath

We cannot shudder at the shifting tide
We cannot shiver at the moon's absent light

The soil begins to weight the lids
The daylight a distant past
The dry earth like dust slips past the lips
The inhales yield chokes and gasps
Reaching out for an empty sky
Still fingers can touch the breeze
The pressure shut tight the seeking eyes
The body begins to freeze

We cannot shudder at the shifting tide
We cannot shiver at the moon's absent light
Into this nightmare now we fade
beyond the reach of day
Into the darkness we draw our spades
Can we escape the grave
